About Untologies

Hi There!

I used to be a writer, and I've always been a reader. After getting my MFA in 2015, my family sold our distribution business, and I've been working in the world of public equity investing (and family office) ever since.

Outside of investing, I still enjoy a good novel, poetry, philosophy, and the occasional memoir. I meditate a lot, and I make a pretty mean soft-scrambled egg. Also, I'm fluent in all the different variations of sad dad rock.

What's This, Then?

Untologies is a play on the philosophical term ontology. The meditations and essays found are meant to unknot the things I encounter in what I read and watch and overhear. But I'm not just trying to deconstruct – French semioticians be dammed. I want these untologies to show how I and my thinking are unto everything else. In parsing through all the ways I am unto everything else, I hope instill in myself that sense of a beginner's mind, a polished mirror.

So, this is a place to document where I am in the moment. Each post is an attempt to polish my own mirror, or at least leave some pretty streaks on the glass. These posts may not be for you. They may not be for anyone. But, my hope is to pass whatever this becomes along to my son.

Untologies is a free space and a labor of love (of wisdom). All the posts and newsletter offerings here will be free, though I will gladly accept tips and donations. No one needs another subscription, and the internet is clogged with ulterior motives.

Sometimes the content here will revolve around investing in public equities. Nothing written here should be construed as investment advice. There are very likely going to be pieces where I discuss companies I or my family are invested in. To avoid any implication of front-running, I will not initiate trades regarding a mentioned stock in the day before and the day after publishing.
